There are many theories circulating in the community, including around science. You can visit mcgill university website and find out which reality and fiction are. The following are some scientific theories that have been proven wrong:
1. Theory of Blank Slate (Tabula Rasa)
This most popular and controversial theory was introduced by Aristotle in front of the pastors of St. Thomas Aquinas. This theory states that a newborn person does not have a personality and is “empty”. But along with technological developments, it was found that every human being has genes and chromosomes that regulate personality. That is, the human personality has actually been formed while still in the form of a fetus.
Simply put, this science teaches that individual abilities, both intelligence, aggression, preference for certain music, hobbies, creativity, etc. are governed by different parts of the brain. At least every human being has 27 areas in the brain that can be mapped based on their abilities. Modern science then conducted deeper research and found that it was impossible for the brain to be mapped like the theory of Phrenology because there was no scientific evidence that could support if the brain really could be mapped.
3. Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons are the smallest particles
In the world of chemistry, the smallest individual units are now referred to as Proton, Neutron, and Electron. These three components will later join and become atoms. This theory was introduced by Physicist J.J. Thompson, Ernest Rutherford, James Chadwick, and Neils Bohr in the early 20th century. Even though the world of science today has found that there are particles much smaller than the three components, namely Boson, Anti-Electron, and Muon Neutrinos. Are these three particles the smallest particles that have ever existed? For now, the answer is: yes.
A theory about earth elements was sticking out in 1667. It was Johann Joachim Becher who added earth elements (soil, water, air, fire, and ether), namely Phlogiston. According to him, Phlogiston is an element that has properties like fire but not part of the fire. Every object has a phlogiston element which allows it to burn. In the present, we know and learn that an object can burn because of the presence of oxygen (or an oxidizing agent) that allows an item to ignite easily. And the element called “Phlogiston” never existed.
